The Dolphins group is for the beginner swimmer. These swimmers will learn & develop their technique for all 4 strokes; freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, as well as build endurance, speed, and confidence in the water to prepare them to move to the next level of competitive swimming. We take a long-term approach to swimmer development in order for them to make swimming a lifelong activity. The emphasis at this level is proper fundamentals and the willingness to sacrifice speed for efficiency and skill development. We believe the most significant responsibility for coaches is teaching our young swimmers to love the water and to love the sport; games, cheers, and the occasional waterslide fun is a must!
Dolphins swimmers will compete in USA swim meets throughout the year, meets are typically no more than 1.5 hours away and do not require overnight travel. Swimmers must be able to swim freestyle and backstroke across the length of the pool (25 yards) to start.
Dolphins practices are offered 5 days a week, swimmers are encouraged to practice 3 days a week.
The Advanced Dolphins group is for swimmers that have progressed their skills through Dolphins and are showing signs of being ready to expand their technique and training skillset. These swimmers will continue to develop their technique for all 4 strokes; freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, as well as build endurance, speed, and confidence in the water to prepare them to move to the next level of competitive swimming. Advanced Dolphins swimmers will compete in USA swim meets throughout the year, meets are typically no more than 1.5 hours away and do not require overnight travel. Swimmers must be invited to swim with the Advanced Dolphins group by a Coach.
Advanced Dolphins practices are offered 5 days a week, swimmers are encouraged to practice 3-4 days a week.
Group 2 is for the more trained swimmer who is able to swim all four strokes and maintain good technique throughout low intensity interval work. The emphasis in Group 2 begins to shift from primarily teaching to a relatively equal balance of technique work and physiological development. Low intensity aerobic conditioning is emphasized and athletes begin to do more mileage on a weekly basis. It is important that the fundamental skills developed in Dolphins not be compromised as swimmers begin to swim farther in practice. Although the overall level of training and expectations of swimmers increase during this phase, it is important to our coaches to maintain a fun and enjoyable experience.
Swimmers who show they are ready to begin making the move to Group 2 will be invited by a Coach to enter a transition phase, where they will practice with Group 2 on Tuesdays/Thursdays and remain with Advanced Dolphins the rest of the week. Swimmers must be able to swim 5 x 100 freestyle on 2 minutes and have Coach’s approval before they move completely into Group 2.
Group 2 swimmers will compete in USA swim meets throughout the year, meets are typically no more than 1.5 hours away and usually do not require overnight travel.
Group 2 practices are offered 6 days a week. Swimmers are encouraged to practice 5 days a week, and no less than 3 days a week.
Swimmers with the appropriate dedication, desire, experience, and talent move to the advanced training level of our program around the age of 13, Group 1. Age is important but not the determining factor for swimmers to be moved up. Success over the long-term remains our top priority for these athletes. Attention to detail and improvement in stroke technique with a heavy emphasis on aerobic-based training foundation will allow them to achieve ultimate success over time. Efficiency, technical precision, and maintaining variety are key components to success at the elite levels.
Group 1 practices are offered 6 days a week and swimmers must be able to commit to 5 days per week (with one practice being on Saturday) and must be able to swim 20 x 100 on 1:30 or better. The training program is very demanding with a heavy emphasis on distance based physiological training.
